How much does web design cost in Australia?
Web design in Australia ranges from a few hundred dollars for a DIY site to $20,000 or more for a custom agency build. Airtasker's price guide puts the low end at $2,500, the median at $11,250 and the high end at $20,000. Simple agency builds alone run $15,000 to $20,000.
That spread is normal. You are paying for time: planning, design, writing, building, testing and launching. A five-page site for a local tradie and a 150-page site with bookings and integrations are not the same job.
VentraIP, an Australian web host, puts sites built by a freelancer or web design agency at $2,500 to $10,000 or more, depending on how complex the project is.

How much does a small business website cost?
Most small business websites cost $2,500 to $5,000 when built by a professional, based on Airtasker's price list. That usually buys a handful of pages, a contact form and a mobile-friendly design. Fixed-price packages can come in well under that if the scope is clear and the pages follow a proven layout.
For most service businesses, the website has one job: turn a visitor into a phone call or an enquiry. You do not need custom animation or 40 pages to do that. You need clear services, prices or a quote path, proof you are real, and an obvious way to get in touch.
Spend more when the site has to do more: online bookings, quoting tools, member logins or a lot of location and service pages.

How much does a WordPress website cost?
WordPress itself is free. VentraIP estimates a WordPress site costs $200 to $800 upfront if you set it up yourself, plus $100 to $300 a year ongoing, with hosting from about $11 a month. A professionally designed WordPress site costs more because you are paying for design, content and setup time.
The software is free, but themes, premium plugins, hosting and someone's time are not. Budget for updates too. WordPress sites need regular plugin and core updates to stay secure.
WordPress is a good choice if you want to edit pages yourself and keep full control. If you will never touch the site, the platform matters less than who builds and looks after it.

How much does an ecommerce website cost?
An ecommerce site costs a build fee plus monthly platform and payment fees. On Shopify in Australia, the Basic plan is $42 a month billed yearly or $56 billed monthly, with online card rates of 1.7% plus 30 cents. Design, product setup and photography are extra, and they are usually the bigger cost.
Airtasker lists ecommerce builds at $2,000 to $3,500, but that assumes a simple store. Large catalogues, custom features and product photography, which Airtasker puts at $100 to $150 an hour, push the price up fast.
Be honest about volume. If you will sell a few items a month, a simple store or even a booking or enquiry form may make more sense than a full ecommerce build.

How much does website maintenance cost?
At a minimum, you pay for a domain and hosting. VentraIP lists .com.au domains from $9.95 and hosting from $11 a month. On top of that, budget for software updates, backups, security checks and small content changes, either your own time or a paid care plan.
Ongoing costs are easy to forget when you compare quotes. Ask every builder what happens after launch: who updates the site, who fixes it if it breaks, and what that costs.
Also ask who owns the site and the domain. If the builder owns either, leaving them later can mean starting again.

What does MarketingOnWeb charge for a website?
MarketingOnWeb has three fixed-price website packages: $499 + GST for 5 to 8 pages, $999 + GST for 15 to 20 pages, and $2,999 + GST for 75 to 150 pages. Copy, images, a contact form and basic SEO are included, and you own the site and the domain.
Fixed packages keep the price low because the scope is set upfront. They suit service businesses that need a clear, fast site that brings in enquiries. If you need custom features such as complex integrations, a fixed package may not fit, and we will say so.
